How Can You Help?

'People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."'
Mark 10v13-15

Overcoming obstacle in child's life can make a difference between success or failure, life or death. Some obstacles they may face include disinterested or abusive parents, lack of interest in learning, lack of understanding of basic health issues, lack of basic nutrition, etc. Some barriers can be overcome through local programming or getting involved in the local school. Taking an opportunity to learn what is available in your community to help children become successful at life can make all the difference in a child's life. We believe in networking with other agencies that have the expertise to help meet these needs.

After networking with agencies that are already in place, it is time to begin providing servies. It may mean opening your doors (either your home or church) to at-risk kids. Is is possible that some may steal or vandalize? Yes. Taking as many precautions as possible is important, but having an open and forgiving heart helps make a difference.

  • It will mean providing love to the ones that many believe are unlovable.
  • It may mean providing snacks or meals to kids who are going hungry.
  • It may mean finding a way to provide immunizations so kids can start school on time.
  • It may mean finding a local eye doctor who will provide exams and glasses to kids who are having a hard time seeing.
  • It may mean finding a dentist who is willing to provide basic dental car.
  • It may mean providing live experiences (i.e. trips, camp) to kids who never go beyond their neighborhood.
  • It may mean helping and encouraging kids in their education.
  • It means looking at the whole family to see how the needs of the child can best be met.
  • It would mean taking the time to be there, even when others have given up on them.

The obstacles are as numerous as each child. Each one will have something in their life that will try and draw them away from becoming successful. The important thing is finding what each child needs and working at helping them (and possible their family) overcome the obstacles.

    Is this possible? Yes

    Is this easy? No.

It takes commitment and and understanding that long term change takes time.
